Terms
Last updated 14 October 2026.
Who we are
Descant is offered by Joel Stephano, a sole trader based in the United Arab Emirates (“we”). Questions about these terms go to hello@descant.app.
A choir’s subscription is an agreement between us and the choir. The director who buys it agrees to these terms for the choir, and confirms they are allowed to. Singers agree to these terms when they sign in. Singers under 16 need a parent’s or guardian’s permission, and their choir is responsible for getting it.
Your choir’s music
Choirs add scores, arrangements and learning tracks to Descant. Most of this music is owned by someone else, such as an arranger, a publisher or a track maker. By adding music, the choir confirms it has the right to copy it and share it with its members for rehearsal, including through Descant.
The music still belongs to the choir and its owners. We use it to run Descant for that choir — reading the score, lining up the tracks and playing them to its singers — and to test and improve how Descant reads music and hears singing. Only the choir’s members can hear it. We never publish it, sell it or share it outside the choir.
If you own music that a choir has added without permission, email hello@descant.app with what it is and which choir. We remove access to it while we look into it, and we close the accounts of people who keep adding music they have no rights to.
Your singing
Your voice is analysed on your device and never uploaded. Descant keeps only the measurements of each pass. The Privacy page lists what is kept, who sees it and how to delete it.
Scores and coaching
Descant’s scores, verdicts and coaching come from software, including an AI model, and can be wrong. They are for practice only. They don’t judge anyone’s voice and aren’t contest scoring.
Paying
Choirs buy Descant through Paddle, our reseller. Paddle takes the payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and sends the invoice, and its buyer terms apply to the purchase. You pay the price shown at checkout.
A season lasts as long as the checkout says. If it renews automatically, the checkout says so, you get a reminder before it renews, and you can turn renewal off at any time.
30-day money-back guarantee
If Descant isn’t right for your choir, email hello@descant.app within 30 days of paying and we will refund you in full. The refund goes back the way you paid, through Paddle. This doesn’t replace any refund rights you have by law where you live.
Using Descant fairly
Don’t add music you have no rights to, get into another choir’s account, share your sign-in, resell access, or try to break or overload Descant. If you do, we may suspend your account, and we will tell you why.
If something goes wrong
We aim to keep Descant running and your choir’s work safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or never lose data. Keep your own copies of your music. Descant is provided “as is”.
The most we are liable for is what the choir paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We aren’t liable for indirect losses, such as a contest result. None of this limits liability the law doesn’t allow us to limit, or your rights as a consumer where you live.
Ending
Singers can delete their account in Settings at any time. Directors can delete their choir from Members, and its music and its singers’ progress go with it. We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. If we ever shut Descant down, we will give directors at least 30 days’ notice and refund the unused part of any season paid in advance.
Changes and the law
We may update these terms. If a change affects what a choir pays or gets, we will email its directors at least 30 days before it takes effect.
These terms are governed by the law of the United Arab Emirates. If you have a problem, email us first and we will try to fix it within 30 days. If we can’t, the courts of the United Arab Emirates decide.
